" Mariyaan - Long running Saga . Complete OverDose , At your own risk "

First day and it was really a good crowd , no wonder they came here to see their Pudhupettai and polladavan Dhanush on screen. Being a Dhanush fan , i was so excited with the whistles and claps everywhere at the first glimpse of our hero as a rude boy fisherman. I should admit , he looked just cool in this movie and perfectly stylish. Movie starts at Sudan Africa and it was really interesting the way the story was narrated.Location choices made were really stunning and hats of the cinematography , really it made a difference with the absolute true BGM from ARR at first half. Be it the natural greenery near sea shore or be it the blue waters or the beach sand it was wonderful all the way adding to it with dhanush mass look , our expectation sky rockets.Parvathy menon as Panimalar 'a' Pani in this movie comes in as a pair for dhanush and she is a real wonder beauty and was mesmerizing all the way. She was so cool and she did pure justice to her role given.Movie starts with Sonapariya Song and it was good , dhanush dance and his onscreen performance was really awesome. He is really a natural born actor and just does his job as a charm. But not to miss though sonapariya song was good suddenly there is a line " sikki sikki ah ah , maththi sikkikicha , nenji vikki kicha , machan vacha micham " which parvathy would sing and we feel as if what the heck happened , a western hip hop style suddenly induced in middle of a beautiful song surrounding a fisherman area and then i realized its okay because its ARR and its his trademark to induce this kind of unwanted beats in middle of good songs and what ever he does becomes a art...crap..!!!







There are so many good scenes like This dialogue " Yenna Gali groundnu sonna , adhu thaan ippo patta pottutiye " & " Chruch laa seruppu theikira vela vechikadha " it was cool to watch it when dhanush says it or the initial fight or say only good fight in the movie when he beats the guy who compells to marry Mani by coming to her house , sure the scene along with the stunning bgm gives you definite goosebumps and his action was real kick-ass one with that mass Cigar look ..!! With jagan and Appu Kutti adding some fun comedy quotient to the movie , first half sails somehow but it was not entirely a fun movie or a action movie at all. Nice romantic scenes and with nice visuals n BGM First half movies at a steady and slow pace as if 2 hours went in already for the intermission. By the time we were at intermission we felt like we were expecting the climax and end credits , but only then we realized that it was just 70-80 min of movie over so far.But all said , i never expected that we are in middle of a SAW game and that this is going to be a life or death choice.



 

The great and much awaited second off started ,apart from some good scenes like dhanush acting in desert serving lunch for his friend jagan virtually or the dialogues like thambi ipppovey yenna konnudhu or when he calls Pani and asks for money were cool but it just went on and on and on ...oooooof Songs after songs after songs..they get the viewers already to a drowsy coma state. The desert scene and escape scene though the visuals were okay n good , it was like going on for generations and the BGM was already a overdose. Nenjey elu nenjey elu song was placed at right place and we are already in a worst state praying to god for the song to get over , then dhanush sees mani as she says vaa mariya vaa....then again nenje elu starts and half of the crowds already Elundirichitanga.....!!! Then after the great funny events like a sudan terrorist finding dhanush walking through the desert bare foot was a big fun and then a sea at middle of sudan was a medical miracle , i dont want to go find it in a map to validate it because we are already tired by the length of second half. Then somehow mariyan reaches home escaping from those terrorist and suddenly one more song starts and 90% theatre is empty already. While someone was getting out of theater spilled few drops of water from their can which brought me out of the coma state and i just immediatly checked my watch to see if it was already 6am early morning so i can order some breakfast because i came to theater at 10pm night. But to my shock , it was just around 1am and i didnt not resist myself anymore to sit inside that theater playing the saw game. As my opinion , BGMs shouldn't suppress or under-shadow the script or the work of director and other cast. BGM & songs was okay and acceptable to one limit but when it goes beyond the accepted point , sure it sickens our brains out . Felt as if this was tailor made for ARR and seems he is a hero but not dhanush. I just couldn't remember when was ARRs last movie which ran well at theaters. I am sure many other movies faced the same slow death as this...!! I am sure ARR is a legend , a great musician or a Oscar winner blah blah blah but he needs to learn to step down at times so the other things in the movie gets highlighted. No wonder why this movie songs was never a hit except one or two which did well at average . As a Fan , As a consumer who spent 120 Rupees this movie was never worth it and total waste. Though i just cant miss to say that Dhanush performance along with parvathy was real good along with good cinematography. But rest all are way beyond the consumption level. I can see many would say this movie is a saga , a poetic one , etc..etc..but the fact is its just a rubber-band stretched beyond its limit. Bharath Bala sucks big time and ARR best work did the opposite with too much of overdose.Mariyaan best fit to be telecasted in Sun TV or Vijay TV as a TV Series so they have whole lot of time to put 100 songs or more as they live

One's Views on a film doesnt change it all because every eye and heart feels different. So it would not be surprising if someone else liked this long saga of Haridas movie runinng for hours all together. Movie is entertainment , a art to attract audience , and so if it fails to entertain you then sure it failed as a whole no matter what we say ..Just because there are so many out there saying this is a best movie they have watched , it still doesnt change a thing on what viewers personally gone through while watching.

This review is just my opinion and i am not against anyone who say they liked it or say this is the masterpiece the industry ever seen or say ARRs best dream work then VTV or a national award winning one then let that be it . This is purely my view as a dejected fan who wasted his 120 Rupees which he could have spend on some other good movies. My Rating : 2.5/5 and i am sure you know what would be the rating if it wasnt for Dhanush. Dhanush still rocks and i really liked his acting and he is the only guardian angel for bharathbala now.
